What immunizations are students required to have for their clinical internship?

Prior to commencing the program, students are required to provide evidence of:

  • a negative result for a two-step Mantoux tuberculin test
  • current immunization against rubella, tetanus, diptheria, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, and hepatitis B, and
  • a minimum of 2 Covid 19 vaccinations

During the program, students are:

  • required to provide evidence of results of a negative tuberculin test (and if that is positive, a chest x-ray report) within one month prior to registration
  • responsible for maintaining immunization throughout the program

Students are also strongly recommended to obtain vaccinations as per public health guidelines (e.g., influenza, COVID).

What safety training are students required to complete?

Prior to commencing the MScPT and OIEPB programs, all students are required to complete education modules on:

  • Hand Hygiene
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Module
  • Workplace Violence and Harassment
  • Privacy and Cyber Security
  • Occupational Health and Awareness Training
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • College of Physiotherapists of Ontario: Infection Control and Equipment Maintenance Standard

Have students completed a vulnerable/criminal reference check prior to commencing a clinical internship?

Students complete a Vulnerable Sector Check at the beginning of the program.  Students are able to share this with the site if required.

Do students have CPR and first aid training?

Upon registration, students are required to provide a copy of a valid certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR at the Basic Rescuer (C) level. Annual re-certification of CPR is required by the Department of PT at U of T. A copy of the certificate as evidence of the certification/re-certification must be submitted to the Departmental office no later than August 31 each year while enrolled in the program.

Have students been mask-fit tested?

Students are mask-fit tested in week 1 of the MScPT or OIEPB program. In special circumstances, students may have been granted an exemption for a medical or religious reason.
