Rehab Rounds: Kathryn McPherson & Dr Nicola Kayes

Professor Kathryn McPherson & Dr Nicola Kayes from AUT University presents Facilitating ‘engagement’ in rehabilitation on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 12-1pm. This event takes place at the room 132 of the Rehabilitation Sciences Building, 500 University Avenue.

Rehabilitation is rarely a matter of simply delivering services to patients and/or clients. Rather, it relies on their engagement in a process of continued and intensive effort over long periods, perhaps a lifetime. Whilst increasing attention has been given to efficacy of specific interventions, less has been given to patient/client engagement as a vital component of that intervention. Whilst it can be tempting to think that using words like ‘self efficacy’, ‘clients as stakeholders’, or ‘self management’ satisfactorily address this issue, these things do not seem straightforward for either our patients/clients or indeed the professionals working with them.  This presentation will explore some of the questions our team has explored in relation to these issues and highlight areas of possible future research for discussion.
