Rehab Rounds: Joan Scannell

Joan Scannell from Stepupphysio presents Disc mechanics – clinical theories of predisposing risk factors and treatment investigated on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 12-1pm. This event takes place at the room 140 of the Rehabilitation Sciences Building, 500 University Avenue.

Joan Scannell is a registered physiotherapist who received her Honours Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Trinity, Dublin, Ireland in 1993. Joan spent almost three years working in a large teaching hospital in Dublin after her under-graduate program. Joan came to Canada in 1996 and has worked full-time in private practice since her arrival. She completed numerous post-graduate clinical courses including acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, sports injuries rehabilitation and manual therapy as well as completing her Masters of Science and PhD at the University of Waterloo. Joan’s current research focus is on low back disc failure and rehabilitation, research that is likely to have a major impact on back pain and physiotherapy practice on both sides of the Atlantic.  Driven by her passion for excellence in physiotherapy Joan opened ‘The Scannell Physiotherapy Centre’ in 2001.
