MScPT Program Accreditation – Fully Compliant
Temerty Medicine’s Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MScPT) program has achieved full compliance in accreditation from Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC), effective July 13, 2022.
PEAC’s report praises the Department of Physical Therapy and the MScPT program for its continued nurturing of impressive community cooperative relationships with strong commitment on both sides to support and maintain those relationships for the benefit of U of T learners. Accreditors also appreciated the collaborative approach taken to strategic visioning, as well as the strong interdisciplinary approach (cross-appointments, curriculum committee), and resources for and recognition of clinical supervisors.
The program was also commended for its excellence in presenting detailed curricular competencies required of all MScPT learners. The program provided clear descriptors of learning objectives and a variety of different learning activities and assessment.
“This outstanding result could only be achieved through teamwork,” said MScPT Program Director Sharon Switzer-McIntyre, offering her gratitude for the leadership of Department Chair Prof. Susan Jaglal as well as all the faculty, staff, students, clinical colleagues and partners who help make the Department and the MScPT the exceptional program that it is. “We are so thankful for the care and contribution of everyone in our vibrant and productive PT community. We couldn’t have done this without your support.”
The next accreditation activity will be a submission of a progress report on or before October 15, 2023 to provide evidence that the recommended lab space and IT renovations are complete and classroom space is sufficient for the program needs. This work is well under way with Faculty partners in Facilities and Space Planning and Discovery Commons.
PEAC is an incorporated body under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and operates as the accrediting agency for physiotherapy education programs in Canada. The status of Accreditation – Fully Compliant was granted to the program for the period until July 15, 2028.
