Giving Back: MScPT Students Wheel for a Cause!

What better way to blow off steam after a Neuro exam than to sit back, relax and…..wheel around!

On Sunday, September 18, 24 MScPT second year students had some post-exam fun participating in the Spinal Cord Injury Ontario Wheelchair Challenge.

The Wheelchair Challenge helps remove attitudinal barriers towards people with spinal cord injuries. Participants depart the Wheelchair Challenge with a better understanding of accessibility issues, and knowing they have supported members of their community through the funds they have raised, while taking part in a fantastic celebration.

This year’s theme- “End of Summer Celebration”- was bustling with great tunes, delicious bites and of course beach balls (no summer bash would be complete without them.)

Our students formed four teams of six. Their challenge was to compete in various fun physical activities using wheelchairs to gain points, as well as a 4×200 meter relay. Prior to the Wheelchair Challenge, participants solicited pledges from corporations, family and friends to raise money to support people with spinal cord injuries across Ontario. One of the MScPT teams (named PT Roll Out) placed second out of 38 teams! Another (The PT Cruisers) won the best costume award.

Our students raised a total of $3,057 to support their community, and are proud to have participated in such a fun and meaningful event.
