Evidence Based Practice in Pediatric Rehabilitation For Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists

This course is available only to Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists who are employed at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

January 10th is the registration deadline for this course. The course runs from January 20th to March 28th, 2014, 8:00 am ‐ 4:00 pm each day.

This course is presented by the Continuing Professional Development Committee at the Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.

Learners will develop knowledge and skills to search for and appraise research literature to investigate a topic of interest and apply the findings to their practice.

Course objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe basic principles of evidence based practice in pediatric rehabilitation
2. Conduct online literature searches
3. Critically appraise and assess the evidence related to pediatric rehabilitation questions
4. Discuss dissemination of research evidence in pediatric rehabilitation practice

The 10 week online course will focus on the use of evidence based practice in pediatric rehabilitation. Individual readings, online discussions and assignments will be used to discuss a range of topics focused on finding, appraising and using evidence related to pediatric physical and occupational therapy. Emphasis will be placed on appraising relevant emerging pediatric physical and occupational therapy topics and related research as the basis of the course work. Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 4-5 hours per week to this course. Physical therapists and occupational therapists are eligible to participate
