Congratulations to the Bridging Team on the 2021 Special OPA Award
The OPA Board of Directors has awarded an OPA Special Award to the University of Toronto’s Ontario Internationally Educated Physical Therapy Bridging Program.
The Ontario Internationally Educated Physical Therapy Bridging Program is recognized for its many innovative initiatives, the high quality of the program and its success in preparing candidates for entry-to-practice in Canada since it accepted its first cohort at the University of Toronto in 2012. These innovations have contributed to the sustainability of the program through changes in funding sources and increased accessibility of elements of the program within and outside of Ontario and even Canada. The unique modular approach with both in person and virtual education has allowed for the capacity of the program to meet the challenges of the current pandemic and in fact learning from the Bridging Program has been applied in other programs at University of Toronto during this time. Most importantly, this award recognizes the incredible commitment and dedication of the program’s faculty to working with each individual learner within the program towards achieving their personal and professional goals. Without question, the program has been an enabler of a more enriched health care community providing opportunities to bridge skills and knowledge to be successful in the Canadian health care context. Beyond the program participants themselves, you have also educated the broader community about and promoted awareness of the needed contributions that internationally educated colleagues make for a healthier and stronger Ontario and Canada. The program has truly advanced the profession and health care for Ontarians and we look forward to its continued success.
Congratulations to all members of the Bridging Program on this special award. A virtual celebration will take place in 2021.
