Promoting Health and Wellness in Physiotherapist Learners

The purpose of this workshop is to draw insights from the field of positive psychology to describe how health and wellness has been re-conceptualized.  First, we will introduce relevant models that underpin a shift in emphasis from illness to wellness.  We will then explore key approaches for maintaining mental wellness including self-awareness, self-care, and mindset theory. Finally, we will elaborate on the mindset theory and the impact this theory offers for pursuing happiness and wellness for physiotherapists and physiotherapy students.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe selected models of wellness that underpin a broadening conception of ‘health and wellness’
  2. Describe tools for promoting mental health and wellness including self-awareness, self-care, and mindset theory
  3. Apply the mindset theory as one approach to improving mental wellness
