Check your email for your JOINid

  • The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) emails you a JOINid when you apply to the program. If you did not receive this information, or if you have forgotten your JOINid, please contact
  • You need to enable your JOINid and create a password online.
  • Your JOINid eventually becomes your UTORid and gives you access to services such as email, library resources, and Quercus, the University’s student portal and learning management system.

Get your TCard

  • Please obtain your TCard by the first day of school. This is needed to access University services.
  • The TCard office is extremely busy in September so we recommend going as early as you can.
  • Check the TCard website for hours of operation and double check that you have the required documentation before you go.
  • If you are moving to Toronto – make sure you bring the right documents with you when you move!

Set up your UTORid

  • Please activate your UTORid by the first day of school. Your UTORid is part of your University of Toronto identification. You need it to access University services and resources.
  • Your UTORid is assigned to you when you obtain your TCard. Instructions on how to activate your UTORid are provided to you when you pick up your TCard. 

Set up your UTMail+ Address

  • When you pick up your TCard, you will be given information on how to set up your UTMail+ account.
  • It is essential to have a University of Toronto student email account.
  • Beginning the first day of classes, this will be the only email the University and Department will use to communicate with you.
