How to Defer Tuition Payments

Defer Your Minimum Payment to Register

  • You can defer your tuition payment if you are/will be receiving student loans. The process is slightly different based on whether you are receiving OSAP or student loans from a province outside of Ontario.

OSAP Recipients

  • To view your invoice, sign into your ACORN account, select Finances and then View Invoice.
  • Before the registration deadline, click on OSAP/Gov’t Deferral under Financial Accounts.
    • If your tuition fee deferral application is successful, ACORN will change your status from “INVIT” (invited) to “REG” (registered).
  • After the registration deadline, you will need to take the following documents to the School of Graduate Studies:
    • a copy of your tuition invoice from ACORN and
    • proof that you will be receiving OSAP (or other) funding 
  • Questions concerning OSAP should be directed to Enrolment Services at osap.staff@utoronto.ca or phone 416-978-2190

Recipients of Other Student Aid

  • You will need to bring or fax or email a copy of your provincial Notice of Assessment to Enrolment Services so that your online fee deferral access can be activated.
    • Please write your University of Toronto student number on the Notice of Assessment. 
    • It takes approximately three business days to process requests.
  • After three working days, and before the registration deadline, apply to defer the minimum payment to register. Follow the instructions above.
  • Questions concerning financial aid from provinces outside of Ontario should be directed to Enrolment Services by email can.oop.financialaid@utoronto.ca or phone 416-978-2190
