October 1, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 12:30 pm
A Course for Physical Therapists
Presented by the University of Toronto,
Department of Physical Therapy
October 1, 2016
8:00 am – 12:30 am
Description
This half day course will provide physical therapists who are interested in teaching with the knowledge and skills to teach PSW in accredited programs in Ontario. The program is designed so that PTs can implement teaching and lesson plans related to mobility for PSWs immediately in a classroom and practical lab.
Personal support workers (PSWs) function as part of a health care team to provide hands-on assistance to individuals in their homes and other community settings. There is a growing cadre of PSWs given the Ontario demographic and the economic drive to provide care in the home rather than hospital.
One key function of PWS is to assist individuals with their mobilization through transfers, ambulation and range of motion exercises. Recent changes to the accreditation standards have specified that the content related to mobility is to be taught by physical therapists who specialize in this area.
This course will support physical therapists’ knowledge and skills in curriculum development, content delivery and evaluation classroom.
