“What we have learned from studying activity-based community mental health settings in Sweden“

Dr. Carina Tjörnstrand is a faculty member in the Department of Health Sciences/Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science at Lund University in Sweden. Her doctoral work focused on engagement in Day centers for people with psychiatric disabilities and she is currently doing her postdoc in the research group “Mental Health, Activity and Participation (MAP)”. Dr. Tjörnstrand has co-coordinated a research project evaluating an intervention called Balance Everyday Living (BEL) that aims to balance everyday living for people with psychiatric disabilities. Dr. Tjörnstrand current research focuses on daily-living activities for persons in supported housing. Together with the research group she has developed an intervention strategy for both staff and residents that is now being tested in Sweden.
