Explicit and Implicit Motor Learning in Adults who do and do not Stutter

 

Short Bio:

Fiona Höbler is in the 4th year of her doctoral studies at the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, University of Toronto, where she studies under the supervision of Professor Luc De Nil, in the Speech Fluency Lab, Department of Speech-Language Pathology. Fiona completed her Bachelor of Arts at the National University of Ireland, Galway, and clinical Masters of Science at the University of Reading, England. Fiona practised as a Speech and Language Therapist in the southeast of England, whilst also developing a passion for research at the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences, University of Reading. Fiona has previously worked on research involving the influence of multilingualism on executive functioning in healthy adults, language rehabilitation in post-stroke aphasia, as well as the identification of sensory impairments in older adults with dementia. In her doctoral research, Fiona seeks to answer the fundamental questions concerning the nature of motor impairment in developmental stuttering, and will present findings from her studies into the modality-independent and domain-general learning processes that motor skill relies upon.
