The TeleRehab Centre for Acquired Brain Injury: Filling a gap in clinical care and research

Short Bio:

Dr. Robin Green is a Senior Scientist and Clinical Neuropsychologist at the University Health Network – Toronto Rehab, and tier 2 Canada Research Chair in traumatic brain injury. Her research program focuses on brain and behavioural mechanisms of recovery from traumatic brain injury, and the development of mechanism-based treatments to enhance recovery. Dr. Green’s lab has led in the reconceptualization of moderate-severe brain injury as a chronic and progressive disorder, with brain injury causing not only initial impairments, but also setting in motion a second wave of deleterious neurological changes that can result in neural, cognitive and mood declines in the chronic stages of injury. Her lab has identified novel, modifiable treatment targets, and has used these basic research findings to develop novel, non-invasive treatments to prevent decline and improve long-term outcomes. Dr. Green and colleagues recently founded the Telehealth Centre for Acquired Brain Injury, which integrates treatment and research, and provides patients across the province remotely delivered evidence-based care in their own homes. Dr. Green helped to spearhead the first Project ECHO Concussion, where frontline practitioners across the province are linked with an expert team via videoconferencing to receive weekly didactics and case-based learning on concussion. She is a principal investigator with the Canadian Concussion Centre, studying long-term effects of multiple concussions in retired professional athletes. Dr. Green is co-lead of the Schroeder Brain Institute, and is currently establishing an international mentorship program for graduate students and junior trainees as elected Board of Governors member of the International Neuropsychological Society. Dr. Green completed her PhD at Cambridge University and her clinical neuropsychology training at UHN in Toronto.
