Long COVID – the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

Short Bio:

Dr. Melody Nguyen is a physiatrist at Sunnybrook seeing both outpatients and inpatients. Dr. Nguyen completed medical school training and residency in PMR at UofT. Dr. Nguyen has been working with the COVIDEO group since early 2021 seeing patients with long COVID. Dr. Nguyen also works as a community physician in the GTA and with the Ontario Workers Network Neurology program.

Dr. Larry Robinson serves as Professor and Chief of the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Toronto.  Dr. Robinson is based at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where he serves as Program Chief.  He also holds the John and Sally Eaton Chair in Rehabilitation Sciences and is also the President of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Robinson has published extensively on rehabilitation and electrodiagnosis with >160 publications in the peer-reviewed literature.   He is co-author on 3 peer-reviewed articles on rehab after COVID.

Dr. Marina Wasilewski is a Scientist at St. John’s Rehab Sunnybrook and an Assistant Professor with the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI) at the University of Toronto (U of T). Dr. Wasilewski’s program of research is focused on using social and peer support strategies to optimize the health and well-being of patients and families as they journey across the continuum of care. She employs qualitative, mixed method methods, and co-design approaches to engage important stakeholders in health research and service improvement. She has published a scoping review on COVID rehab, conducted a qualitative study on stakeholders’ experiences with COVID care across the continuum, and has received a CIHR grant to co-create a psychosocial rehab agenda for people with long COVID.
