The ability to integrate research evidence into the practice of manual therapy is crucial to ongoing clinical effectiveness. In this online course, you will develop the skills to evaluate current research and apply research evidence in the clinical setting, through online course readings, recorded lectures, and discussion board participation. Participants will complete eight modules, undertake a critical appraisal of a research article using the PICO framework and guidelines established by the Physiotherapy Evidence Database, complete a written reflection applying course content to their individual practice contexts, and write and present a case report targeted for submission to Physiotherapy Canada. By the end of this course, you will be able to find, appraise, and apply research evidence appropriately and effectively in your own practice. This course is relevant to clinicians and educators who are currently practicing or have previous experience in manual therapy.  Course participants should expect to devote approximately 6-8 hours per week to this course.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for all physical therapists taking Orthopaedic Division Education Level Courses:

The CPA Orthopaedic Division now requires all course participants who first registered AFTER January 2014 in their course program (L1 exam), to register in this course BEFORE registering to take the 2019 Advanced Exam. This course is now a requirement of the curriculum.

James Braithwaite, MSc.(PT), FCAMPT, CIDN has an extensive background in Physiotherapy and physical conditioning. He holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy (Queen’s University ’10). James is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT), which is the gold standard for advanced level physiotherapy training in Canada. James has 6 years of manual physiotherapy training between seeking the FCAMPT designation and post certification mentoring of students. James is also certified in Integrated Dry Needling (CIDN).
