MCQ Exam Skills Preparation Workshop

The Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Exam Skills Preparation Workshop is a skill development workshop for managing a competency-based multiple choice examination which is valuable for internationally educated physical therapists who are preparing for the written component of the physiotherapy qualifying exam.

The workshop will NOT provide “bridging” or “upgrading” content for physical therapy practice in Canada.

Workshop Dates

Please Note: ESP Workshops will be delivered on the following dates only if minimum enrolment numbers are met.  Applicants will be notified by email seven days before the date of the workshop.

MCQ Workshop Date:   Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Deadline to register is 5PM on June 8 2012.

Refreshments are provided. Bring or purchase your own lunch.

Workshop Purpose

  1. To develop skills and strategies for writing the competence based MCQ examination.
  2. To practice applying exam writing strategies in a 100 question MCQ exam.
  3. To review the practice exam and further demonstrate the approaches and thought processes for taking a competence based MCQ exam.
  4. To review technical errors candidates must avoid in taking the MCQ exam.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the one day workshop, you will be able to:

  1. Understand competence based assessment, the structure of the MCQ and how they are used.
  2. Discuss exam taking strategies, including the three step approach to MCQ exam.
  3. Discuss study strategies for the MCQ exam.
  4. Discuss general exam preparation strategies.
  5. Apply recommended strategies for taking the PCE MCQ exam.
  6. Understand technical errors to be avoided when taking an MCQ exam.

Registration Deadline: 5PM on June 8, 2012
Registration fee: $150

There are two steps to register:

  1. Complete the registration form and print a copy prior to submitting
  2. Mail the printed copy of the form and payment to the address listed below

Fees are to be paid by Money Order, Bank Draft or Certified Cheque to the Department of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto.

Workshop Prerequisites

Before attending the workshop students are advised to complete Module 1 from the College of Physical therapists of Ontario (CPO) website.

Depending on your English language skills, Module 1 takes approximately 4 hours to complete. The module:

  • provides an overview of exam context and use inCanada;
  • reviews competency assessment and methods; and
  • highlights the difference in purpose and context between examinations used within educational programs and those used for professional registration.

Students should review the Exam Blueprint for the Physical therapy Exam prior to attending the workshop.

Directions

By Subway: At the St. Patrick’s subway station on the University Subway line exit on the North WEST side at the University Ave. Walk north on University Avenue to the Rehabilitation Science Building at 500 University Avenue.

Driving: Parking is available in the parking garage behind 500 University Avenue on Simcoe Street. Simcoe Street is one block west of University Avenue and is a one- way street going north. To access the Parking Garage turn north off Dundas Street onto Simcoe Street – the Parking Garage will be on your left.

GO Train: Walk or take the subway from Union Station to University and Dundas Street West and walk north on University Avenue to the Rehabilitation Science Building at 500 University Avenue

Cancellation Policy

If there is insufficient registration the workshop will be cancelled and refunds given. If there is sufficient registration no refunds will be given to those who fail to attend.
